Today is a little bit of a storytime post cause i feel like this story have to be share with you guys ð
Some of you who already learn chemistry may know what is a potassium. But some people may also be wondering what is a potassium so here I am to give you some info about it before I begin ð
So basically, pure potassium is a soft, waxy metal that can be easily cut with a knife. It reacts vigorously with water. It also must be stored in oil because they do not react with oil and oil has a very low solubility for air and water so it keeps the potassium away from air and humidity to which it could react violently.
End of chemistry class, now begin with the story!
On Mid-year exam, we had practical exam which we will be doing experiment about chemistry, bio, and physics. At first everything was going pretty good. I have to do bio and physics first but I had difficulty about that 2 subjects so I decided to just skip to chemistry first.
The experiment is about metal. So our teacher provide 3 kind of unknown elements (metal) in their own specific bottle with oil in it. We have to identify ourselves what metal is it by reacting them with water.
*reading the instruction*
I took out the metal from the first bottle i chose and absorb the oil with a filter paper to get rid of the oil. Then I make sure to do it correctly and double check with the instruction, it says dropped it directly into the water. At this point, i already wondering why it didnt need to be cut into small pieces. So guess what? I dropped the freakin cube-size metal into the water in a beaker. At first, it was totally fine like it sinks down and produced a little bit of bubbles. My mind saying it probably is a less reactive metal. But suddenly, a lot of bubbles coming out from the metal already. Then BOOM!! firework babe. like this
Shit happens. Everybody screaming for life. teacher panicked. Me, saving the damn paper around the beaker, yes , i wish to burn down my school but i need to save people life (JKJKJKJKð). Eventually, the fire stopped and im still standing near the beaker like literally 10 cm away only. Nothings happen. I though i was a life savior ð , but no, the explosion has not done with me yet. POP!! The fire shoot up to the ceiling and leave a black signature of mine on it. (you know what i mean). I'm glad it doesn't break the ceiling ð. My teacher make sure I did not get hurt because i nearly murdered by a god damn potassium. fyi: it will burn your skin when u get in contact with the reaction.
Moral of the story: Please ask when you not sure whether it's right or wrong. Don't be like me please! haha.
END OF STORYTIME. Hope you enjoy this story and stay tuned for more!
